Can a Finite Degenerate ‘String’ Hear Itself? Numerical Solutions to a Simplified IBVP

چکیده
Some discrete models for a simplified (compared to that published earlier in JODEA, 28 (1) (2020), 1 – 42) initial boundary value problem 1D linear degenerate wave equation, posed space-time rectangle and solved exactly (JODEA, 30 (2022), 89 121), have been considered. It has demonstrated the correct evaluation of grid flux can be possible.

Strong convergence of numerical solutions to degenerate variational problems
Numerical approximations of strongly degenerate variational problems of the form J(u) = /J F{u') + (u f)2 are considered, where F is assumed convex but may have intervals where F" = 0. It is shown that, in spite of the degeneracy, natural numerical approximations still converge in Wx -p . Rates in weaker norms and the connection with nonconvex variational problems are also considered.
متن کاملOne Can Hear the Composition of a String: Experiments with an Inverse Eigenvalue Problem
To what extent do the vibrations of a mechanical system reveal its composition? Despite innumerable applications and mathematical elegance, this question often slips through those cracks that separate courses in mechanics, differential equations, and linear algebra. We address this omission by detailing a classical finite dimensional example: the use of frequencies of vibration to recover posit...

Shape-memory alloys are metal pieces that "remember" their original cold-forged shapes and return to the pre-deformed shape after heating. In this work we construct a software analogous of shape-memory alloys: programs whose code resists obfuscation. We show how to pour arbitrary functions into protective envelops that allow recovering the functions' exact initial code after obfuscation. We exp...

The amusement expression is both visual and audible in speech. After recording comparable spontaneous, acted, mechanical, reiterated and seduction stimuli, five perceptual experiments were held, mainly based on the hypothesis of prosodically controlled effects of amusement on speech. Results show that audio is partially independant from video, which is as performant as audio-video. Spontaneous ...
متن کاملWhat Can Birds Hear?
For bids, hearing is second in importance only to vision for monitoring the world around them. ./\vim hearing is most sensitive to sounds from about 1 to 4 kHz, although they can hear higher and lower frequencies. No species of bird has shown sensitivity to ultrasonic frequencies (>20 kHz). Sensitivity to frequencies below 20 Hz (dasound) has not received much attention; however, pigeons and a ...
